Our New Chapter!

Although I’ve “announced” our exciting news on all social media platforms, I’ve decided it merits its own blog post. Plus, I’ve gotten a ton of questions/comments about it… so here’s my chance to respond! Jeremy & I (plus Jack and Henry, of course) will be moving from Sacramento to Albuquerque, New Mexico at the end of June! Jeremy got an incredible job offer, and it was an easy decision. Luckily, I can freelance write from anywhere!

On our very first date, I asked Jeremy what his ultimate career goal is. Academia is foreign territory to me, and all I knew was that he was doing a postdoctoral fellowship. He said, without pause, that he wanted to one day start his own lab and teach. In August 2018, Jeremy will officially be starting his OWN lab and teaching at the University of New Mexico. Needless to say, there were a lot of happy tears here. Making the leap from postdoc to assistant professor is not easy (understatement of the year) and I could not be more proud.

I haven’t made any secret of the fact that I LOVE living in California. I love the weather, I love the palm trees, I love the ability to get to the ocean or the mountains easily. It’s easily been the best chapter of my life.

That being said, I’m also at a place in my life where I recognize how much I can control my happiness. For the first time, I love the work that I’m doing, and I spend my free time doing the things that I’m passionate and excited about. I adopted two pups and got married here. Yeah, the location has been a plus, but I’ve worked hard to create a life that makes me happy – and that life is coming with me to New Mexico!

My perfect home is with the people (and animals) I love. I don’t think it is possible to be more excited about this new chapter, and I know for certain it’s going to be a wonderful adventure!
